A 6 page paper discussing the effects of alcohol advertising during televised sporting events. The practice continues to increase, sending mixed messages to those adolescents who on the one hand are being taught in schools about the dangers of alcohol consumption and dependency, and who on the other regularly see portrayals of drinkers being active, involved and socially acceptable in athletic groups. The purpose here is to assess the state of alcohol consumption in Australia, along with marketers’ efforts to promote their products during sporting events that count high numbers of adolescents in their audiences.
