An 8 page paper examining the possibility that the same factors underlying Detroit's decline and loss of industry were those contributing to Atlanta's rapid growth between 1986 and 1996. The paper finds through a literature review that the two share very little similiarities aside from black crime, police inefficiency and more typical urban problems. It is true that Atlanta was growing rapidly, but its growth was based in services rather than manufacturing or any of the industrial pursuits that Detroit had lost over the period of a generation. Based on the evidence presented, the study concludes that each city was being
affected by globalization, but in very different ways and certainly not within the same types of industries. Bibliography lists 13 sources.
