This is a 4 page critical analysis of Chaucer’s “The Wife of Bath’s Tale”. Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Wife of Bath’s Prologue and Tale” reveals a 14th century character and tale of a woman considered as one of the first feminists. The Wife of Bath is portrayed as an independent woman who, having been widowed five times already still has a desire as to what she and any woman would want in another marriage. Contrary to beliefs at the time, the Wife also feels that she has learned most of her knowledge about marriage by experience and not the Church. Also through her own tale-within-a-tale she reveals that what women want are young, virile men who give their wives love, respect and sovereignty of the household. For her, men who do not fulfill these requirements and are disrespectful to their wives only desires the plague.
