Crime is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about deviance, however, it is not the only manner by which deviant behavior is demonstrated. Oftentimes deviance does not equate with breaking a norm or the law as in the case of mental illness; as such, this gives an even wider understanding of what classifies as deviance when people are considered relatively valueless to an otherwise 'normal' society.
