In an almost prophetic tale of conflict and decline, Mike Davis, in Ecology of Hope: Los Angeles and The Imagination of Disaster, argues that Los Angeles is a city poised for disaster. It is Davis' developed belief that Los Angeles is a city that was constructed in a manner that lends itself to susceptibility to disaster, and promotes a lifestyle that is completely unprepared for these types of natural responses to urban development.
