smaller community banks. Despite the fact that
community banks were touted as the hope of the banking future for
consumers and praised as one way that the American public could
and would regain its confidence in the banking system, financial
institution mergers are still taking place at a record pace. By
returning to the original mission of a community bank, consumers
would once again establish a partnership with their “home town
banker” as a partner in their family’s or small business’
