5 pages in length. It is not difficult to realize that impressionable young girls are getting their first introduction to female relationships and sisterhood through a fairy tale that places sibling love and respect below all other aspects of a healthy relationship. Additionally, young readers are taught that the world is dominated by patriarchal figures to which women are not allowed to oppose, being forced to abide by the rules set down for them without making any fuss. Laurence Behrens and Leonard J. Rosen, authors of Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum, contend it is no wonder that young girls grow up into womanhood with a distorted impression of love, relationships and sisterhood, inasmuch as when they finally embark upon the real world, they are rudely awakened to the fact that life is nothing like it had been portrayed in the well-worn fairy tale Cinderella. Various vignettes throughout the book illustrate the manner by which this particular fairy tale gives young girls the wrong lesson about female relationships. No additional sources cited.
