Gender roles in mainstream American culture have been evolving rapidly over the last thirty years due to the influence of the women's movement and its influence. Young women today have many more job opportunities and career options. Men who are openly emotional and who take a greater role in raising their children and domestic chores are no longer regarded as not being masculine. However, there have been some missteps along with the progress.
