A 20 page discussion of infidelity in relation to marital commitment. Discusses the variation in views of infidelity across culture and time. Asserts that while infidelity is a more acceptable behavioral component of some cultures, these cultures are most often viewed as being primitive and inferior by "mainstream" white culture. Infidelity is viewed by mainstream society therefore as an aberrant behavior, a behavior which is a reflection of the growing immorality of our society. Concludes that there are a number of formative traits which are acquired in childhood which impact our adult perceptions on infidelity. While these traits vary according to our culture and also according to time they are not in themselves any sort of aberration but simply a reflection of a child learning from its culture. Bibliography lists 14 sources.
