This 15 page paper provides an overview of this issue. Job satisfaction is an imperative part of retaining highly qualified employees. Educational institutions, including public school districts, have recognized the need to assess job satisfaction in correlation with job performance and relative to their capacity to retain their professional staff. Employee satisfaction, though, is a complex issue. A number of different types of human resource management systems have been put into place in an effort to improve employee satisfaction, especially among administrative employees, including shorter work days, shorter work weeks, and improvements in compensation packages, clearer job descriptions and increasing use of team approaches.
