A 10 page paper discussing some of the similarities and differences of the management philosophies of these two
theorists. Deming was nearly a contemporary of Mary Follett; she predated his quality and efficiency work by less than 15 years, but she predated every management theorist in terms of advocating participative management and elimination of domination of one group over another. Deming did much the same, but his focus until the 1980s was that of manufacturing production. Deming, like Peter Drucker and several others, made their “discoveries” nearly 50 years after Mary Follett’s death. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
