A 5 page overview of the various causes and treatments for depression. This paper emphasizes that depression is quite diverse in its manifestations and physiological causes. Consequently there is a multitude of pharmacological approaches to treating the various conditions we lump into that broad category of “depression”. The three most basic pharmacological categories employed in this function are: 1. Classical Antidepressants (which include Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors and Tricyclic Antidepressants), 2. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), and 3. Selective Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs). Bibliography lists 6 sources.
