Plagiarism, A Lie of the Mind

[ send me this term paper ]
A 3 page reaction paper that refers to "Plagiarism: A Lie of the Mind by Professor Maurice Isserman, in which he discusses a scandal at his university which concerned plagiarism by the president of that institution. Isserman begins his comments by discussing the various rationalizations for plagiarism and pointing out that it is natural to use and assimilate the words of others that have become so well known that they have become part of the common culture. After laying this groundwork, Isserman gets to the heart of what he wants to say and states that "...plagiarism isn't a bad thing simply because it's an act of intellectual theft--although it is that. It's a bad thing because it takes the place of and prevents learning" (Isserman 3). This is the crux of his argument and it is a sentiment with which this writer/tutor wholeheartedly agrees.
