This 10 page report discusses Germany
at the turn of the 20th century and the various issues
confronting it prior to World War I. The international rivalries
of European nations, the brewing revolution in Russia, the
changes taking place in all nations but especially those of the
Western world were proving to have a significant impact on
Germany. Germany’s out-of-date ruling classes were, for the most
part, unable to accept the emergence of a new political mindset
of the time. Bismarck’s “Realpolitik,” Wilhelm II’s
“Weltpolitik,” and the July Crisis of 1914 demonstrates an
understanding of the fact that the various maneuvers being made
by the German government were more directly related to the actual
advancements of a single nation rather than any attempt to
establish a dominance or parity with other European nations.
