company's efforts to reengineer its IT function in an effort to become more responsive to
customers' and suppliers' needs. Champion has experienced wonderful growth in the past
five years, but its market share has declined and management has determined that the
company needs to be more responsive. Rather than direct those most knowledgeable to
devise a plan, the company's leaders have taken reengineering design on themselves and
allowed three years to accomplish the task. The paper suggests that management should be
involved only through directive and commitment, and allow those more familiar with daily
operations to arrive at a workable plan and to allow no more than a year, rather than three.
