In addition, SBC owns 60 percent of America’s second-largest wireless company, Cingular Wireless, which serves 23 million customers. SBC was ranked No. 27 on the 2002 Fortune 500 list. SBC currently has 175,000 employees with 2002 operating revenues at $43.1 billion. Chairman of the board and CEO Edward E. Whitacre Jr. has led the company in the past decade to its increased investments in the U.S. and abroad in addition to its expansion in the industry and the fight against the FCC’s Telecommunications Act of 1996.
