A 7 page paper that presents the alternatives some women are choosing around the world as an escape from the marriage construct model. The model is presented and used throughout the paper. The paper operates from the views of feminist anthropologists such as Pat Caplan and Veona Oldenburg, and posits that the empowerment actions embodied in the courtesans of Indian and lesbian mothers, in effect, are empowering acts to the women in those situations, despite their relationship to the model. These acts, therefore, make a positive contribution to the feminist anthropological record. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
