This 16 page paper considers the problem of paedophilia in society today and whether or not a policy of naming and shaming will help prevent paedophile crimes taking place. The paper starts by defining paedophilia and looking at how it has been seen historically and then considering levels of occurrence and the causes as well as potential treatments. The paper then considers the benefits of naming and shaming. Other uses of this tactic are considered before it is applied to paedophiles. The results of mob violence that resulted from the name and shame campaign conducted by the News of the World Newspaper in 2000 are also assessed.
