Social Class Distinctions Based on Spatial and Perceptual Divisions

[ send me this term paper ]
This is a 5 page paper using the theories of Bourdieu, Lacan, Baudrillard and Barthes to discuss the theories of social distinction. Traditionally, sociologists have found distinct separation of the classes based not only on monetary and educational standards but also are largely classified by cultural capital, language and psychological distinctions from others. While parents may attempt to overcome these distinctions through mobilization through the classes in the interests of their children, there are still many factors which they cannot overcome. However, postmodernists do not agree that the same social distinctions are made in today’s society as individuals are overcoming social distinctions and forming new relationships based on common interests and reality because of capitalism, consumerism and the modern media. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
