Her article "Sex, Lies and Conversation; Why is it so Hard for Men and Women to Talk to Each Other" in the Washington Post clearly spells out the fundamental basis upon which relationships stumble their way to divorce: the majority of men have a communicative duality whereby they are more chatty in social and business arenas but practically closed down when in the comfort of their "caves," the precise place where women long for their mates to be talkative and verbally sharing. This conundrum, which is hard-wired into gender context, plays out daily at breakfast tables everywhere as wives who desire nothing more than to converse with their husbands are met with the backside of the morning newspaper as the "linguistic Battle of the Sexes" (Tannen) rages on.
