A 4 page paper discussing savant syndrome, that form of autistic mental retardation that remains a most intriguing field of study. The savant syndrome skews most theories of intelligence as they have been defined in that it refuses to neatly fit into any category short of the broadest one of mental retardation. These people have amazing talents in specific abilities that far exceed those that 'normal' people are able to achieve, such as instantaneously and mentally calculating 20-digit numbers or delivering the day of the week of any given date from any year.
