This is a 9 page paper discussing the importance of knowledge of the community in regards to school success. Schools are becoming innovative in their organization of education, communication and the partnerships required between them and the families, communities and other educational and administrative institutions within their region. In fact, the entire “learning community” is now believed to consist of the school, the teachers, the students, the parents, the administration, the staff, and the community. Schools across North America are now realizing the importance of relationships with the community have on the success of the students and the schools within that community. In fact, schools now realize that they cannot “go it alone” without these important relationships if they expect to succeed, attract new students, implement parental participation known to be beneficial to student success, and implement local, regional, state or federal changes within the educational system. While some programs concentrate on local relationships between the schools, families and the community, other networks have been created to increase partnerships between different school and administrative systems, resources and communities in order to facilitate educational change.
