This 20 page paper looks at how and why government may seek to influences the media at times of crisis and conflict with specific assessment of the press reporting of the massacre in Uludere, Turkey in December 2011. The paper presents a literature review looking at the role and control of the media and then assesses the reporting of the event in two major Turkish newspapers; Hurriyet and Zamann. Using articles published in the 7 days following the massacre the articles are examined to assess the way that the content presented and is either aligned or at odds with the government rhetoric. The bibliography cites 30 sources.
