Mental illness, which has been found as a preponderant and critical aspect of the uniqueness inherent to artists, is clearly a motivating factor in myriad creative celebrities, many of whom have punctuated this correlation by taking their own lives. Poet Anne Sexton and painter Vincent van Gogh both suffered from clinical depression, both were renown for their creativity and both took their own lives as a result of mental illness.
